Monday, October 5, 2020, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST

We're hosting a Special Session focused on COVID-19 and OSH that will open with high level dignitary remarks, followed by five sessions featuring panel discussions with global thought leaders.

The first session will explore innovations in addressing COVID-19 in the workplace. COVID-19 represents a new type of occupational disease, with rapid onset of symptoms rather than the traditional long latency period. The need for immediate and urgent action by governments and workplaces to safeguard workers means new ways of diagnosing, recording and notifying are required to meet this challenge and to evaluate the burden and impact on workplaces and social security systems.

The second session will focus the changing world of work and COVID-19, including the global impacts on employment, remote work, and strengthening social security protections for workers.

In the last hour of programming, three break-out sessions will shine a light on “the culture of prevention” and its role in responding to COVID-19, strengthening resilience for sustainable workplaces through social dialogue, and new Vision Zero indicators and training programs.

Translation into French, German, English and Spanish will be available for October 5, 2020 sessions.


Tuesday, October 6, 2020, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. EST

The International Media Festival for Prevention will announce the 50 shortlisted projects of the festival. The best among them will be awarded at the XXII World Congress, taking place in Toronto on September 19-22, 2021.

The International Labour Organization session, preparing for decent work through safety and health in the new normal, will explore the intersected relation of OSH, business continuity and resilience, employment and labour rights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ILO will highlight the importance of supporting collaborative efforts between multilateral actors and countries through initiatives such as the Global Coalition for Safety and Health at Work.

The International Social Security Association will host the Global Forum for Work Accident Insurance, which gathers leading experts and researchers from social security institutions to discuss prevention related questions for workers compensation boards and occupational accident insurance schemes. In this session, the Forum will address responses to pandemics outbreaks and extreme events such as the COVID-19.
