Dr. Stephan Hussy

Director General, German Social Accident, Germany

Dr. Stefan Hussy is the Director General of German Social Accident Insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung e.V.), and Chair of the International Social Security Association: Technical Commission on Insurance Against Employment Accidents and Occupational Diseases, in Germany.

Previously, Dr. Hussy was the Chief Prevention Manager of the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for Trade and Logistics Industry from 2010 to 2016, before becoming a member of its Board of Management from 2016 to 2019. He had studied Ferrous Metallurgy at the Clausthal University of Technology (CUT), graduating in 1982-86, and received his Doctorate of Engineering in 1992. This education background has enabled Dr. Hussy to excel within several areas of work.
From 1988 to 1990, Dr. Hussy was a production engineer for material development at Preussag Stahl AG before becoming the company’s Works Manager in the cold-rolling mill from 1990-1992. From 1993 to 1998, Dr. Hussy was the Labour Inspector for the Institution for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention in the Metalworking Industry in northern Germany. And, from 1998 to 2010, he was the Head of the Prevention Division for the German Social Accident Insurance Institution, for the public sector in Lower Saxony and for the local authorities in Hanover.

Global Forum for Work Injury Insurance

The Global Forum for Work Injury Insurance provides a platform for representatives of occupational accident insurance or workers’ compensation schemes to discuss a number of global challenges that occupational accident insurance systems are facing today, such as the impact of technological progress in the areas of prevention and rehabilitation. This platform will open the opportunity to exchange information, to present good practice approaches and to formulate joint positions. 

In Europe, Asia and North America there are already regular meetings and conferences at the regional level that have begun to link with each other. Complementing the activities of ISSA Technical Commission on Insurance against Employment Accidents and Occupational Diseases and the Special Commission on Prevention, this integrated platform provides an added global value for occupational accident insurance systems. 

The Global Forum will be accessible for regional accident insurances associations and fora, international bodies and ISSA member institutions.
