Mr. Franklin Muchiri

OSH Team Lead / Senior Specialist, Occupational Safety and Health, ILO, Switzerland

Mr. Frank Muchiri is a member of the International Organizing Committee for the XXII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work.

Mr. Muchiri’s key area of specialization is on Occupational Hygiene. Currently he is leading work on the development of guidelines on biohazards in collaboration with the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) and the International Occupational Hygiene Association (IOHA).

Mr. Muchiri trained in Kenya, UK and Sweden for his undergraduate and postgraduate studies. He began his career in 1979 at the Directorate of Occupational safety and Health, Ministry of Labour, Kenya and appointed director in 2001. In 2003, he joined the ILO Sub-regional Office for Eastern Africa in Ethiopia as OSH specialist and in 2010, transferred to ILO-Decent Work Team for Eastern and Southern Africa in South Africa, where he provided technical support to countries in the sub-region. He is a Member of ICOH and has served as a member of the ICOH board during the 2006-2009 triennium.

TS1 - OSH resilience and sustainability in enterprises

Resilient organizations have the capacity to anticipate, monitor, respond and learn, especially in the face of unexpected challenges. As an emerging concept, resilience in OSH management holds the potential to enhance an organization’s capacity to respond to unexpected and complex risk management situations, by improving the number of things that go right, rather than by reducing the number of things that go wrong. The Technical Session will discuss this potential paradigm shift including the potential application of engineering principles to enhance safety management systems.
