Mr. Gilles Binet

Actuary, Canada

Mr. Binet a Canadian actuary, FICA and FSA. He has been an ILO external collaborator since 1995 as an expert in financial assessments of social security schemes.

During his active career in the province of Quebec, he has been mainly involved (1983-2010) as senior actuary and manager, in the actuarial unit of the Commission des normes, de l’équité et de la santé et sécurité du travail, which is the public agency administering the laws related to occupational health and safety and compensation of injured workers. He was a professor at Laval University in Quebec City for 5 years (1978-1983) and gained experience in private pension and insurance matters in an insurance company, a consultant firm and a supervisory authority (1971-1978).

Workers' compensation and employment injury insurance schemes play a pivotal role not only in providing necessary compensations and rehabilitation to injured workers but also in enhancing prevention of occupational injuries and diseases. This session will highlight their efforts in both developing and developed countries to cater for needs of all workers through integrated strategies on OSH, compensation and rehabilitation.
