Mr. Silas Sng

Commissioner for Workplace Safety & Health, Ministry of Manpower, Singapore

Mr. Silas Sng started his career in 1997 with the Ministry of Manpower as an engineer cum inspector. He gained his operational experience inspecting factories and equipment such as boilers and cranes, as well as leading investigation into fatal or serious accidents. Over the years, Silas rose up the ranks to assume various leadership role in the Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate as well as in the Work Injury Compensation Department.

Silas was also instrumental in the drafting and development of the outcomebased Workplace Safety and Health Act that was enacted in the 2006 to replace more prescriptive Factories Act.

On 1 April 2019, Silas was appointed as the Commissioner and Divisional Director for the Occupational Safety and Health Division. He is entrusted with the honor and responsibility to lead the division to achieve the next level of WSH improvements in Singapore guided by the WSH2028 strategies.
