Important Travel Notes To Consider

Visa Information

For details regarding obtaining a Visa, please refer to the Visa Information page.

Insurance

Delegates are advised to take out their own insurance to cover their travel, personal possessions, and cancellation. FIGO 2021 World Congress nor FIGO cannot protect delegates against cancellation of bookings, cancellation or disruption of travel, or theft or damage to personal possessions.

Emergency & Safety

Sydney is considered a rather safe city. However, it is always advisable to know about local safety services in the unlikely event of an emergency. In the event of a health, safety, or criminal emergency, dial 0-0-0. It is also advised to know the location and contact number of your country's embassy in the event that your travel documents are lost.

Getting Around Locally

With the Opal Card, tourists and residents have an opportunity to get around the city seven days a week. Besides buses and trains, owners of an Opal Card can also use ferries and light rail to reach their desired destination. Besides using public transport and hiring a taxi to get places that are further away, it is recommended to walk around the city by foot to explore all the famous city attractions.

Tipping

Since the Australian minimum wage is relatively high, it is not common to tip and also not expected as people do not rely on tips as heavily as other countries. Be sure to talk to your taxi driver first before entering, as many taxis are metered and they do round up.

Arriving To Sydney

Terminals

All international flights arrive at Terminal T1 and most domestic flights are handled at Terminal T2. At the domestic terminal T3, most of the domestic flights to larger Australian cities arrive and depart. The recommended check in time is no later than two hours before your departure.

Getting To & From The Airport

The airport is about 10 km away from the city of Sydney and can easily be reached by public transportation.

By Train: Trains are departing frequently from the underground stations.

By Bus: Buses depart from Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

By Shuttle Bus: Delegates may also take a shuttle bus that can be booked at the information desks in Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 that will have direct links to hotels.

By Taxi: Taxis are available outside the terminals.

Customs

An Incoming Passenger Card must be completed by all arriving passengers and they must show the completed form as well as their passports to an Australian Customs officer. In case false declarations have been made, travelers may have to face penalties. Therefore, it is recommended to ask a customs officer for advice when in doubt.
